The Orono Land Trust has built and maintains walking paths, The Orono Historical Society has held meetings on the island and has been a baluable resource by providing historical photographs.
The island has been used by the Orono Fire and Police Deparments for training and Ayers Island, LLC has donated space for the headquarters of Dirigo Search and Rescue.
